Michael T. Bivens earned his Bachelor’s Degree from Capital University School of Management, specializing in Economics, and later obtained his Juris Doctorate from Capital University Law School. Since 2003, he has been dedicated to the practice of law in the State of Ohio and the United States District Court for the Southern District of Ohio.
As the managing partner of his own law firm, Michael has made significant contributions to the legal landscape. Additionally, he has held the prestigious position of Whitehall City Attorney, making history as the First African American Elected Official in the City of Whitehall. On December 31, 2023, Michael achieved another milestone by being sworn in as the First African American Mayor of Whitehall. In his own words, he emphasizes that this accomplishment is not just about him but about paving the way for the next generation. Michael’s primary objective is to foster the growth of the city and attract more residents to the City of Opportunity.
Beyond his legal and political roles, Michael has served as a pastor and proudly served in the United States Marine Corps during Operation Desert Storm as a Veteran.
In his personal life, Michael has been happily married to his best friend, Joy, for over 25 years. Together, they have two children: Mikayla Bivens, a graduate of Hampton University, and Michael Justin, a recent graduate of North Carolina A&T State University.
